Empathy: the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
I believe we are all empaths, but most chose not to feel, because to open up to feel, means you have to feel everything. The highs and the lows.
For highly sensitive people, learning to discern what is mine, what is yours and what is ours, in other words being aware of when you are feeling another’s emotions and what your own emotional state is, this is a key for your long-term health and happiness.
Practice being with uncomfortable feelings as well as the ‘pleasant’ more comfortable ones, without attaching to or identifying with them.
